Question
hi ive just got 3 ginny pigs from my dad who said they were all female well since found out 1 was not as the other 2 were pregnant 1 still is other had 3 babies last night they are in a 2 tier cage which i have separated off new mum and babies at top other pregnant female on bottom , how long do i have to keep them and when do i separate males from females? all have color but 1 baby has red eyes not sure if that means anything? and do i just give them the normal food i was feeding b4 or do babies need extra thank becci xxxx

Answer
well its better to have mums and all babies together in one large cage, mums help each other out. red eyes is normal, king of like blue/brown eyes in humans, the rule of thumb for removing the boy babies is difficult at three weeks they can and sometimes are sexually active, but really ost babies should not be weaned until four-five weeks, if the litter is three or more then i would say until the fourth week.
normal food is fine but i would add alfalfa hay while the babies are being reared and maybe a cuttlefish bone to soak in the drinking water to up the calcium.
