Question
hello,
my guinea pig is about one month old.Yesterday(13/04/2011) ,he tried to jump the metallic of his cage and he got hurt.
First he screamed and when i took him in my arms he was bleeding from his left leg.I believe it's a cut.
the bleeding did stop after a while and didn't cry.
he is having his food as usual.
the only thing is that in the morning he was not making his wheeking sound to ask for food though his was hungry.
i also noticed that his is not using his leg properly.
please help.
does he need a vet?
is this serious?

Answer
I'm afraid I can't tell you how serious it is as I'm not able to see it.

From your description it sounds like he most definitely needs to be seen by a vet. He may or may not need stitches in his leg, but the vet will make that decision. Usually after 24 hours we don't suture a wound because it's already been contaminated. What we worry about most is infection.

He's not using the leg because it hurts when he moves it. The very best advice I can give you is to take him to see a vet and let them decide what needs to be done next. That doesn't mean he is going to die from this wound, and I'm not trying to frighten you about that. But he needs to be examined and treated and maybe given antibiotics if the vet thinks it's necessary.

Please let me know what the doctor says. And hopefully he will heal quickly.
