QuestionI have had a guinea pig for about 3 months and was told he is a boy...i just introduced a new guinea pig to his cage which is also supposed to be male too...but i'm not sure...my original pig now makes this deep purring sound and wiggles and drags his butt all over the place...they also try to get on top of each other...is this normal?...are they really boys?...and what are they doing if they are ?please help I'm a little confused!
AnswerHi Christine
First of all, take a look at the following link so you can be totally sure you have 2 boys.
http://www.diddly-di.fsnet.co.uk/Sexing-Guinea-Pig.htm
The behaviour you describe is totally normal. Basically the two pigs are deciding between themselves which is going to be the dominant male. This includes the humping and the dragging bottoms. This is putting scent onto their territory. (The sweat glands are near the pig's anus)
If you encounter any hostility between the two please separate them. Things to look out for are chattering teeth and bearing the teeth and even fighting.
I hope that helps.
