Question
i feed my dogs garlic powder as a preventative of fleas, just sprinkled over their food. can i do the same for guinea pigs. I have 3 babies (from breeder) and 2 adult females (rescued). my piggies go outside to play in the yard and i'm concerned over fleas. any recommendations. thank you in advance for your help. Colleen

Answer
Hello Colleen and thanks for the question,

The information that I found regarding this is that GARLIC can be used as a general tonic for GPs as well as an antimicrobial (external use) and mild wormer (internal use).

I would say YES, you could try what you propose. See if your GP will EAT a clove of garlic first and keep tabs on the results. If he gets sick on too much garlic, I would NOT use it.

As I said, garlic is harmless to GPs BUT too much of anything is usually bad. It does NOT cause GI gas though so there is no fear of that (as GPs cannot rid themselves of gas and will die from it).

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
