Our Guinea Pig doesnt like us...

Question
Thanks so much for your help and encouragement.  Yes, we did get her from a PetStore (PetSmart).  We regretted getting her their later becuase we realized that there was a MUCH better very well-reputed pet store (that is not a chain... or at least doesn't act like one) here in Lansing called Preuss'.  They have everything there, the pigs are cheaper and the Staff was VERY VERY knowledgeable.  they were helping us telling us what to do and not do even though we didn't buy our pig there!  I was impressed by how much they knew and took their job seriously.  For now on we're going there to support them. (We found them right after e-mailing you)

We're going to get her some hay like you suggested.  What's a good mix of veges?  How much?  I am looking for the cheapest but not at the risk of depriving Bailey (our Pig) of what she needs.  So I suppose I am looking for the most economical yet still effective/healthy way to feed her fresh veges.

Thanks for your help!

it seems to me that she is a healthy guinea pig. did you buy her from a pet shop because if you did it has probably been illtreated. i have had this experience with a guinea pig. in the nd i got it to be friendly and now he is my favourite. nevertheless, you can do it. pick her up every day for at least 10 minutes and cuddle her close to you hand feed her while she is on your lap and give her loads of fruit & veg & grass. it requires patience. she may bite or sratch but carry on. you could invest in a pair of thick gloves (not laxtex) to put on when picking her up if she bites a lot. it will protect you and she will not get hurt. you have not done anything wrong and you sound responible. however, i suggest that you get her a friend as guinea pigs need other guinea pigs to talk to no matter how much human attention they get. i know you live in an apartment but it would be wise and guinea pigs are naturally clean animals. any more questions please contact me. ii hope this has been helpful.

Answer
i am glad to have helped you. you can give Bailey carrots, runner beans, celery, turnips, cabbage, lettuce, apples, bananas, grapes, peaches, pears, cuecumber, peas, spinach, broccoli, parsnips, swedes, tomatoes and more. do not give them anything that has been cooked. they love grass, which is priceless and excessable. also, most guinea pig formulas are good and some cost as little as 99p. nevertheless, never feed them nuts or buy them dry food with nuts in as this could kill them. please contact me if you have any further questions.
