Pup with no Mom

Question
We bought a guinea pig about 2 months ago.  She was about 4 months old then.  She had two babies 10 days ago.  One was dead.  So she just had one tiny little pup.  Then she, the mom, died yesterday.  Now we have this little tiny 10-day old pup who is all by her self.  She is eating well (romaine lettuce and timothy hay mostly) and is pooping.  But we are worried about her being lonely.  At this young age, is it safe to introduce another guinea pig into her cage to keep her company?

Answer
Hello Angela,
I am not sure of the age when it is right to introduce another guinea pig. Considering that she seems fine and healthy, you could get another guinea pig and quarantine the guinea pig for two weeks and then introduce the guinea pigs in a neutral territory. Don't introduce the guinea pigs in the cage, they should be some place neutral. Generally guinea pigs are more accepting of each other at a young age so it could be good to introduce her to new friends.
Here is a website that has more information on introducing guinea pigs.
