Question
One of my guinea pigs reason died and I want to know why or what from. My guinea pig was healthy for the most part except she drank an excessive amount of water. during the night she started randomly squeaking only once or twice and hour I got up gave it some water and went back to bed. The next day she was bristled up and squeaked pitifully she had glazed over eyes and I called my vet but by then she had become so ill they said there was nothing they could do. I feed her water by dropper but she died soon after. Any ideas?

Answer
The most common illness which kills guinea pigs quickly is Upper respiratory infections, the guinea pig  might have drainage in the eyes, wheeze and squeal, and fluff up their furr. If you had another guinea pig watch it carefully for signs of illness. It also could have been a kidney infection, but these usually take longer to cause severe illness, and signs of blood in the bedding is usually noticable. I have some information on my website about URIs, http://woopets.bravehost.com . Let me know if you have any more questions.
