Coughing

Dear Andy,

My 2 yr old guinea pig seems to be squeaking/coughing/sneezing in a weird way, and when she squeaks, she sounds different. She has been sneezing several times. Each time she sneezes, she opens her mouth really wide. I don't think she is actually sneezing, I think she is having breathing problems.

Today I got her a new friend (another guinea pig), and that is when she started to act weirdly.

It sounds as if perhaps your older pig is finidng it difficult to adjust to having her new friend with her. Try bathing them both so they smell the same as this usually sorts out any difficulties. If the coughing problem persists for more than 24 hours, let me know.
