pregnant guinea pig with sudden attatude change

Question
my guinea pig is literally the size of a botchy ball. she is 6 months old and we are guessing she has about 4 pups based on her size and what we can feel. we know what to do during pregnancy and after with the whole sexing thing that isn't an issue. I've been reading every site i could and they have been saying similar but different things. we have had stomach movement for atleast a week and she has suddenly had a change of personality. she used to be very outgoing, loud and social, now she hides away in a box whenever someone is present and doesn't say anything. my friend has experienced this with her pigs and said that they had given birth the night of the change. my pig has been like this for two days and we tried to feel the pelvis like you suggested to the other woman but we couldn't tell what it was. is there any significance with her behavior and giving birth in the next day or two.

Answer
Megan,

I am sorry I am just now getting back to you with an answer, the internet has been down all over town due to storms the last few days.

It is normal for her behavior to change like it has, she is going into mother mode. Guinea Pigs are prey animals and so when they are just about ready to give birth they go into hiding in order to protect their young. It is natural instinct for her to go into a protection mode. It is the the only way for her to protect her young, though Guinea Pigs have be domesticated for over 100 years they still have all their natural wild instincts.

The only reason for her behavior change is to protect her new born babies as they are helpless for the first hour or 2 of life. So she is going to have the babies I would say just about any day now, once she has them she'll start revert back to her more normal self once again.

I hope this helps and good luck to you,
           Take care now,
