is it too late to toilet train our 2 male guinea pigs?

Question
My 2 male guinea pigs pee where ever they like, whether it is on my lap, on my husbands lap or on the floor in the house. They live out side in a large 2 storey hutch and mainly use the bedroom area for their mess but also go where ever takes their fancy. Is there a way of training these guineas not to firstly pee on us when we get them out to play as it is a bit of a put off, or is it too late-we have had them for 2yrs?   Thanks.

Answer
You could always try to litter train your guinea pigs, which is possible, but since yours are older, it will be very difficult.

It is pretty simple to set up the training process.  Just buy a litter pan, put some litter in it, and move all of their soiled bedding into the litter pan.  If they continue to pee outside of the litter tray, move that soiled bedding into it as well.  Leave it dirty for a little while, and keep replacing dry bedding with newly soiled bedding.  This should prompt them to go where they can smell that they have gone before, even if they haven't actually gone in there.

If this does not work, I am very sorry to tell you that there is really nothing you can do about them peeing everywhere.  What i would suggest is to let them play on the ground for a while, wait for them to pee, and then hold them in your lap.  This way, they will not have to go again for a little while and it will be safe to hold them.
