-----Question-----
Hello, i have had my guinea-pig since he was born, and he is amazing! but recently i have noticed that on the back of his legs and his 'arm pits'! have become bald, I'm not sure whether this is because of mites, or whether this is old age as he is now 5, but a very happy chappy!! please let me know of any advise, and whether the vets it needed, thank you.
-----Answer-----
it does sound like it could be mites. i would really take your guinea pig to a vet. how does the skin look? does it look pink and healthy, or red and scaley? If it's pink but balding than it may something else like a vitamin deficiency or something may be irritating his skin. if it's red looking and flaking than it's probably mange mites.

Answer
what type of bedding are you using? wood shavings cause guinea pigs problems with respiratory problems and sometimes can cause them to lose fur. i would really take your guinea pig to a vet for medical attention to find out why he is losing fur. Losing that much fur is serious. He may need a more protein rich diet along with an increase of vitamin C daily as well. A lot of times if there is no other signs but a loss of fur it could be a vitamin deficiency. Do you use any type of vitamin for your guinea pig. Vitamin Drops in a guinea pigs water can help give him the nutrients that he needs. The vet is still a good place to go.
