Piggy lethargic and cant squeak

Question
My Piggy, Boop, is about 6 years old.  He's been generally healthy during that time, but has recently started laying around on his side a lot more and seems a little more docile than his usual active self.  Last night my husband heard a hoarse, breathy noise, and realized that boop was trying to squeak, but sounded like he had laryngitis. We haven't heard him squeaking in days, but he does purr, and walks around and seems interested in his food pelets.  I don't know how much he's eating since he lives with a bunny and they share food.  His nose isn't crusty and his breathing sounds pretty normal to me.  What should I do for him?

Answer
Hello Misty,
the main thing you should do is call a vet and/or take your vet in to get seen just to be on the safe side. It sounds like a lot of it is slowing down due to age and I do know that some guinea pigs will stop squeaking as they get older. Is his eyes clear and bright, his fur is okay and he is eating and drinking okay than he may be fine. Also, your guinea pig may not be getting the right nutrition if you keep a bunny with him. Bunnies and guinea pigs require different commercial feed. It's also not good to keep guinea pigs in with a bunny because the bunny can injure a guinea pig.
