Question
That's good to hear! No he doesn't purr when he lifts his leg! lol He does purr however when he stretches on his belly for a shoulder scratch.  He does nibble on my clothes and hair (it sometimes turns into a game of tug of war :)but I have heard that some babies do this and then grow out of it. Is this true? He has never bitten my skin but he does knaw on clothing and on occasion can pull pretty hard.  Any suggestions? Thanks so much in advance!

Answer
One thing I have learned in life is to never say "definitely" on anything. There is a fairly good chance he will stop nibbling yor clothes, but as guinea pigs are sooo unique, I can not give you a definite yes answer. I, for instance, have a guinea pig named Oreo. As you know, the more you hold a guinea pig, the calmer it will become around you. I find this to be untrue in Oreo's situation because my boyfriend, his mother, and I have held her since the first couple weeks of her life, and she is still as skittish as that first day we held her. It's strange indeed. Chances are he may stop, but you seem to have a very unique guinea pig. He may keep his baby qualities and continue to chew on you for the rest of his life. As for him chewing on things he shouldn't, when he goes to nibble on something you prefer him not to, get him a treat such as an apple slice or carrot stick. Also, try not to let him climb on your shoulder, or let your hair hang over your chest. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a free "hair cut" from a couple of my pigs! Don't yell at him or spank him though as this could traumatize him. Another suggestion is to wrap him up in a blanket or towel so he'll nibble on that. Guinea pigs have a chewing instinct because if they don't chew their teeth can grow over long and cause them to not be able to eat. Some just chew more than others. I really suggest trying to replace something being chewed on with food. I find this helps as it takes the attention off of the item you don't want chewed. Make sure he doesn't nip you! A guinea pig's bite can hurt and bleed very bad! I hope this helps. I notice most times once a pig has explored something enough he or she will eventually stop being so curious. He could really like your shirt perhaps because of the texture, color or because it smells like you. I'm sure he'll stop nibbling as much as he is now. He'll probably lose interest, but remember, one can never be completely certain on anything. Cherish your guinea pig, even if he does have a few quirks. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :) Have a nice day, both of you! :)
