Eating hair

Question
Hi,
I have had my piggy Mopsy for about 6 months. I have recently purchased two other females Rosie and Flopsy. Well I got Rosie first and had her in with Mopsy. Then I moved Rosie into another cage and put in the new girl Flopsy. After a while I noticed that Mopsy had a few bald patches. Then I saw Flopsy chewing on her hair, so I seperated them. But the bald patch got bigger and I noticed that Mopsy was eating her own hair. I gave her more stuff to gnaw on. But nothing has helped. I am almost sure that she is pregnant. (I had her in with a male). And yesterday I noticed that she was bleeding and there are more bite marks on her today. I don't really have the money at the moment for the vet, but I thought you could help. Please help.

Answer
Hello Lizzy and thanks for the question,

It really sounds like you should seperate this female from the rest. Quarantining her will help you isolate her problem and prevent her from infecting the other GPs.

It sounds like she is invested with lice/mites. Check for them with a magnifying glass. If it IS mites/lice, look to my other posted answers for a great and inexpensive way to treat it yourself (no vet). It it is NOT lice, you need to take her to a vet if the symptoms do not heal OR if she gets worse (such as added lethergy, eating/drinking problems, loose stool).

Thanks and good luck,
Ryan
