guinea pigs ears

We have four six week old guinea pigs, two of them have very dry, stiff areas on one ear each. These areas are lighter in color than the remainder of the ear.  Any suggestions on what to do?

Hello Susan and thanks for the question,

If this condition is ocuring and you cannot see mites or ear mites AND the ears are free of dark brown WAX, I would not worry. It happens to GPs and a lot of people say it is like a human havig "chapped lips".

To "soothe" the irritation, seperate the GPs and rub a little Udder Cream hand lotion into the ear "flaps". You need to seperate them so they don't lick each others medication off. It won't kill them but it might make them sick.
