QuestionHow long is a sow in heat or in season to get pregnant? I have a male and female that are raised together but when he started following her and pulling her hair I separated them. How long should I keep them apart?
Thank You
Kristi
AnswerSows are in heat for about 24-48 hours and come into heat every 16 days or so. If you do not want babies, I suggest that you keep them apart. If you do want babies and put them back together you would need to keep a close eye on them. Guinea pigs sometimes will reject the other as a mate for reasons we have yet to discover. After a couple of days, you can put them back together and if the hair pulling continues, you will probably need to permanently separate them.
Thanks for your question and I hope this helps.
