-----Question-----

"I've had my guinea pig Cujo for about a week now, but i got him from my girlfriend about a week ago for a Christmas present. She bought him from the store, kept him for a week and gave him to me a week ago. he's been acting fine since ive had him, but since yesterday he's been acting strange. he never moves out of his house i made him, rarely eats lettuce or oranges, and squeaks really really loud when i pick him up. he doesn't want to be held and when he is in his cage by himself and i took out his house, he just sits there, and doesn't move a muscle. He is not quite a year old right now. could it be a guinea pig cold?"

Hmmmmm... sounds like your guinea pig may be in pain. I believe a check up is in order since he's not eating it is a sure sign that something is wrong with the little fellah. He could have mange mites or a cold. Mange mites burrow under the skin and cause the guinea pig to have severe pain as well as scaley red skin.
I would call a vet as soon as possible and schedule an appointment.

It can take a few weeks from being infected for the mites to hatch. Question, is he eating his normal diet food? Also when you are holding him, does he eventually stop squeaking? Mange mites are actually common from petstore guinea pigs and many of them are infected before you buy them. It may or may not be mange mites because there are no symptoms of fur loss and scaley red skin. If he completely stops eating he should go to a vet to get looked at.

Answer
okay, do you have wood treats for him for him to chew on? It sounds like he's more nervous than anything. He's afraid of his new home and just give him some time. Hold him a lot and pet him, don't make any sudden moves while holding him or loud noises because it makes them even more nervous. Hold him close to your chest so he can hear you heart beat and just slowly pet him. I think he's more nervous than sick.
