Question
Hi Ryan,I have a great concern, for the last 2 months I've had a male piggy and I felt bad for him being alone,so I got him another male guinea pig.Everything seemed to be going good. For extra space I got them both a little baby pool that measures 39"L X 39"W and everything seemed to be going great. They smelled each other, talked to each other, till I see that the first piggy I got is like bullying the other. The second one I got feels out of place and very strange meanwhile my first spoiled piggy is making strange sounds with his teeth and following the other pig around like his boss.I don't know what to do,I am scared that when I leave the house they will fight and hurt each other. So far there have been no bitting, but i'm kinda scared what do you recommend?

Answer
Hello Glenda and thanks for the question.

Guinea Pigs ARE herd animals and having "companions" around IS recommended. However, if you have two UNALTERED MALES in the same cage, they will fight. These fights can be some of the nastiest melees you could ever see. What sometimes happens is that one male DOMINATES the other. This is normal and should be encouraged. If, however, the dominant male is continually hurting or robbing the other male of food and water, you must intervein.

Here is my suggustion: Keep them together but seperate. Keep them in the same pen but seperated by a grating. That way they can "talk" and be together without threat of harm. You can also put them together in another "playpen" if you are there to watch. Make sure you DO watch and are wearing gloves if you have to seperate them. They can REALLY hurt you.

I hope this helps you out,
Ryan
