ill guinea-pig

Question
hello
my female guinea-pig has had two litters recently and both dates not very far apart. Her first litter was of 3 and they were all  healthy and went to good homes, but her second litter was 6 and all died. Since then i have left her alone to recover with food and lots of hay. she seemed to develop a sore bald patch on her bottom but now it is less sore but still bald. she also has injured herself on her back and before the birth it was ok and was healing but now it is sore again. Another thing is she has lost a bit of weight, i have kept one of the females from the 1st litter, and now she is heavier than her mum but just a bit smaller so i am sure she has lost weight. is this due to the birth? can you write back ASAP.
thank-you

Answer
Cathy,
Normally pregnant pigs are suppose to have rests before they have a litter, they should have about 3-4 months of rest or they do indeed get very ill due to the stress. 6 is a big number, and they could have been misbreed, were these litters intentional or accident? You may want to syringe feed her and take her to the vet, they sore patch may be due to labor and stress, if she is itching it may be mites. Guinea pigs with weight loss is a big problem, I suggest you to take her to a local vet right away.  Hope this helped!
--Cerian, best wishes to you and good luck!
