Question
we have a male skinny pig (hairless).Tonight he stared acting lethargic .I rushed to our local emergency vet they turned  me away and refused to let me at least PAY THE 80 TO TALK TO THE VET. so i started to try sugar water and heating pads because he felt cold after a few hours he has sorta perked (i only know this from raising a litter of kittens years ago.) Ive started smashed up oranges and pineapple in case its low sugar and he is starting to rally what else can i do ? > I and my children will be devastated if he dies> thanks LORI

Answer
Hi Lorraine,
I'm sorry it took me this long to get back to you, my computer crashed and I wasn't able to get on until now.
Have you been able to get him to a vet yet? If not, you really need to try and get him to one. Maybe you could go to a different office that doesn't charge you to talk to the vet. For a list of guinea pig veterinarians near you, you can go to http://www.guinealynx.info/vet.html .
You are doing the right thing by handfeeding him, it would be helpful if you could get a mix called Critical Care to feed him if he is not eating. You can also use baby food(no meat!) for more information on how to hand-feed guinea pigs, go to http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html .
I apoligize, but I can't diagnose him over the internet without examining him, and without more information. He really needs to see a vet ASAP.
I hope he gets well very soon, and if you don't mind, I would like to hear how everything turns out.
Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
