what can I feel guinea with serious tooth issues?

Question
Hello,

I am helping to care for some guineas while my friends are away.  One of the boys has had a serious tooth issue and has had several trips to a specialist in my area (Northern California) for tooth filing.  The vet believes it to be a chronic problem.  The piggie has just finished an antibiotic and is also getting metacam for pain.  He is eating some things - easy things like cantaloupe, cucumber and some apple.  It seems he WANTS to chew on greens, carrots, hay, etc., but it seems painful or uncomfortable.  I am wondering what else to offer him?  I read that potatoes are poisonous to piggies - how about cooked sweet potatoes?  I want nutritions, calorie-rich foods for this guy that are not so hard to chew.  The family has been grinding up the pellets into a powdered form and adding water for him but he seems only marginally intererested in this mush.  The family will be back at the end of the month (Aug) and will stay on top of his care.  In the meantime, I'd like for them to come home to a live guinea!  He is very sweet, still alert, but skinny.  Any diet suggestions?

Many thanks.

Answer
Hi Hanni

Have you tried doing a vegetable puree arrangement, he is much more likely to enjoy this than mashed dry food.

He may also be able to eat grass rather than dry hay which will be good for his digestive system.

Grapes are good because they are soft as are bananas. If he can eat apples he should manage these things as well as perhaps cabbage.
