caring for new pigs

Question
hi andy, i adoptd ben an abyssinian and jerry a peruvian both are males no greater than 3 months old. on nice warm days i let them out side to run around on the grass under the shade with lots of fresh h20 and food and cover for hiding in a special piggy run. how long on any given nice day can i keep them outside? also, we grow fresh herbs by hydroponics-parsley, basil, mint etc which when we gave a little for them to try, they loved it. will it hurt them giving fresh herbs? lastly, i have two cages each are  42" by 18" that i am using until i can arrange a cavy cage  from c/c cages.  i decided to connect the cages together by using flexible pvc piping which i found they love to run thru as i want them to have a lot of space and keep the cages in my breezeway in the summer where it is screened in, i bring them in at night  if it's to cold or when stormy and to humid, is this acceptable in your opinion? i have a very strong affection and respect for animals and are concerned for their well being. and i hold them often, with regard to cavies, is this ok too?

Answer
Hi Lynne

Everything that you are doing to care for your new pets is brilliant.

If the day isnt too hot then you can leave them to excersize (with some supervision) for as long as you like.

Parsley especially is a big favourite so herbs in general are fine.

Your housing arrangement also sounds very good indeed. I like the tube between the cages, thats great. Bringing them in when the weather is bad (hot or cold) is good.

Most piggies love being handled so they will become tame easily.

All in all you are doing a great job.
