How to correctly put back in cage

21 14:15:00

Question
Hello,

i have a small brown long haired brown guinea pig ( turned 5 weeks on the 18 may). I've had him since last Thursday, and wit the advice from friends though it was ok to start picking him up so he could get used to me.

Now, someone told me how to correctly pick him up, which makes things easier, but i am unsure of how to correctly place him back.

See, when hes on me he wiggles sometimes into odd positions which make it harder for me to pick him up like i did when i first take him out of his cage. So when i try to put him back in his cage, he tends to nibble on my hand below his front paws and somethimes bites.

Its not hard and i know he 's only doing it because he's scared, which is why i would like to know if you knew how to place them back in there cage withough them being scared.

He's still scared of me ( i've had him for about 8 days now) and i don't want this cage thing to make him view me as a bad thing. >.>

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Melanie,

It is pretty easy to put him back into his cage the correct way so he feels more comfortable in being place back into his cage.

The easiest way I have found to place a Guinea Pig safely into a cage is by wrapping them up in a towel. Sounds weird I know but a towel provides security to a Guinea Pig as he has something under all his feet at the same time. Also with wrapping them in a towel they are secure so there is no jumping from your hands and getting themselves seriously hurt. So just take an old towel set him on it and then wrap him safely into it so he looks like a little roll, once wrapped up and your at the cage to place him in hold his front feet with your right hand and his back legs with your left then place him gentle back in and unwrap him. If you have a cage with a side door to it (most people have an open top cage with no doors.) then putting him back is really simple, open the door pull it down and place an old towel on it and then bring him to the door and just like if your picking him up place him on the door and he'll walk right in. Just watch him to make sure he doesn't get side tracked and try to walk off one of the sides. Which is unlikely as he knows the cage is home and where he feels the safest but as he become use to you and his surrounds more he may try it so watching him is a good idea to make sure he walks into the cage and not off to the side.

I hope this helps,
 Take care,
