Question
I am about to buy a quinea pig but im not experienced so i only want to buy one. Can i maybe later (about after 2 or 3 weeks) adopt a guinea pig and put them in the same cage if they are both female and if they seem to get along?

Answer
Hi Kim,
actually its easier to start out with two if you are new to guinea pigs. That way you don't have the pressure to spend hours a day as company for them, becuase they provide each other with that. And they are such social creatures taht they NEED companionship. If you do want to get one first then that is fine too as long as it isn't for an extended period of time that the pig is alone. 2/3 weeks is fine.

They don't have to be female- two boars get along just fine! I myself have males that live together happily, and there are actually less squabbles between them than the two sows I had once before. Putting two mature males together isn't a good idea, but if you get either a baby or an adult for your first one, then you can add a second youngster without any problems. Of course there are times when the two pigs personalities don't match, but that can happen between both two boys and two girls.

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions. :) Good luck with your pigs!
