can I take care of problem at home

My daughter has a male guinea pig.we were't told how old he is but is very healthy and active,however we just found his one eye seeps w/a hard crust and now has a small red lump on the skin outside of the eye.can we take care of this problem or does a vet need to?

I suggest a vet it seems to me he probablly has "pea eye" or maybe mange, as I am not a vet I am not completely sure. If you do not yet have a vet go to vetlocater.com (guinea pigs fall under the category of "pocket pets").Wishes of health to your piggy.
