Question
QUESTION: Our pig whines whenever we hold her and sometimes just walking around. Why is that?
She is young 2 months. Does she just need more time to get used to us?
The 1st time I held her she mad the mad noise.
Then the next few times she did the teeth chattering.
Now it is whinning all the time, especially when I hold her.

ANSWER: Hi Brandon

Getting used to you certainly is the issue so you need to be patient. She might also be bored. Have you considered getting her a friend?

Andy

P.S Let me know if you can think of any other reason for the whinning such as loss of appetite etc.

QUESTION: I have thought about anothe pig but why would she whine when I pick her up if she's lonely?

ANSWER: Hi Brandon

That's why I asked if you could think of any other factor that might be related to her health.

If she is healthy then fear seems the most likely cause. Are you sure she is whinning and not just making normal piggy noises? Can you describe the noise?

She also might just not like being held, although its rare, some pigs dont.

To rule out health problems please hold her and gently massage her body on top and underneath and if you get any squeak of pain let me know.

QUESTION: Well I have listened to the different web sites with piggy sounds on them and it is hard for me to determin for sure between them.
She is perfectly healthy and eating a lot!
I did notice when I went to put hay in today which she loves that she started to make the same kind of squeaks so maybe she just is happy?
Is there an easy way to tell the difference from whining and happy sounds?

Answer
Hi

I think she probably is just happy and likes being held.

Its hard to put into words the difference between happy and sad sounds, I just think you can tell if a pig is upset about something. The most typical noise is a "wheeek" which is the sound of happiness, for example when you give hay so I'm sure thats whats happening.
