Guinea Pigs Biting

Question
Hi There!!

I bought a small long haired guinea pig for my Granddaughter.  He keeps biting her.  In fact, I had to take her to the doctor because one of the bites got infected and she is currently on an antibiotic.  She really loves this guinea pig and takes good care of him and she holds him very carefully.  A lot of times she wraps him up in a towel (so he doesn't poop and pee on her).  Anyway, is there anyway to train him not to bite her.  She named him Elvis.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

Take Care,
Diane Browning

Answer
Hi

Guinea pigs dont generally bite unless they are afraid of something. They are not agressive animals.

If Elvis is very new to the home then perhaps leaving him for a few days before attemtping to hold him again is a good idea.

Alternatively, it may be that your granddaughter is holding elvis in a way that upsets him, even though she is doing so carefully.

Check out the following site which gives loads of greats tips, including how to hold a piggy.
