Neutering my guinea pig

Question
Hi Katie. I have 3 guinea pigs: 2 females and 1 male. The male lives in a seperate cage than the females but when I play with the females he also wants to play and he is always at the side of his cage trying to be and play with them. My friend told me about neutering guinea pigs but she also told me that there is a 5% chance of them dying during the surgery. My male guinea pig is my first guinea pig and he is really sweet so I don't want him to die, but he is also unhappy about not being with the females. Do you think I should neuter him so he can play with the females or just keep him the way he is?

Answer
If you can find a very good exotics vet, neutering carries very little risk. Visit this sites page about neutering cavies www.cavyspirit.com/neutering.htm if you decide that you do not want to neuter, you could get him a young male friend as long as the cage is big enough.
