Question
My poor guinea pig has had a bulging eye for some time now, I attempted to diagnose it myself as "Pea Eye" or "Fatty Eye." It said on the internet that there was no need for treatment because the guinea pig was immune to its feeling. Which has proven to be true because she hasen't been squealing and has been eating and drinking as normal. The eye had scabed over mutiple times and i searched for another diagnosis because I'm a worried mother. I have found nothing else.  Well just today I found a large lump under her hurt eye. It is about the size of a quarter and is quite hard. She dosen't like for it to be touched either. I'm worried it's a tumor, but I'm not sure. She still however shows no sign of any discomfort unless it is touched, both the eye and lump. She will be about six next December. I know thats old for a guiena pig, but is there anything I can do for her?
Also my mother refuses to take her to the vet because of her age, so if theres anything i could do from home that would be great, but anything else include too please.

Answer
Hello Jordan,
You are right your guinea pig does have pea eye or fatty eye, and this does sound just like a tumor!

The fact she doesn't show discomfort and is eating and acting like normal, is perfectly natural!

in most places guinea pigs won't feel tumors! unless they are constantly putting pressure on it themselves!

And short of taking her to the vets there is nothing you can do!

As she is quite old she probably wouldn't make through the anesthetic anyway, just let her live happily and normally for the rest of her life and try to keep infection out of the eye and try not to touch it!

I wish you a happy life with your piggie and wish you the best of luck.
