what to do with fighting guineas

Question
We've had our two males, Cinnamon and Snickers for about two and a half months since thay were approx. 6 weeks old. they got along ok at first(normal dominance stuff) then about a week ago we had to separate them because they became much more aggressive toward each other and lunged and were rolling around in one big furball. We were able to separate and saw some tufts of hair on the floor but no blood. Gave them a bath together and it worked temporarily but now they start chattering if they are within a few feet of each other even with a separation between them. We tried once more to put them together and they immediately started fighting again.

So my question is what can we do now?  At present, we plan to have them each neutered next week, see if that helps, then if not we might get them each a female to live with.  If we did this, could each couple live side by side with a divider in a large cage? Help! We're open to suggestions we just hate to see them like this and funny enough they seem lonely without each other and they will "talk" to each other from across the room but they are a lot more skittish and biting the cage bars a lot! Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are still pretty new to piggies but I'm definitely hooked!

Answer
Hi Amber

You have done the bath thing which would be my first suggestion. Unfortunately, once proper fighting occurs, 2 males dont usually recover their bond.

Neutering is very unlikely to have an impact on the fighting but it will of course mean they can live with a female. If you take this course of action, its best to keep them a bit further apart as jealousy of the other male's female could still occur.

I am also hooked on piggies, they are great arent they?

Let me know if you need any further advice.
