Question
Hi, i'm having a wonderful time with my little sweet piggies. next tuesday they will be 3 weeks old and as i told you i am going to put the males with the father and the females with the mother. is this good or is it unhealthy? Will the father go along with the young ones? i hope he won't hurt them!! i have aother small problem ,i read all the sites you suggested and learnt how to distingiush a male from a female, however the problem is that they are so small, i could not see any difference between them!!!do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Answer
If the males will go in with the father, then place them in with him, I have never had any of my guinea pig fathers get along with their babies, so I just use a separate cage altogether for the little males. The babies are probably all the same sex then, for females look for a small slit in between the Y shape, then if you pull then area back you should see one small dot on each side of the Y's stem at the top, and a white plug right in the middle of the Y's intersection. With the males you will see a dot at the top of the Y, if you press above the dot, it should extend, you should also be able to feel the penis's shaft up above the dot. Let me know if you have any more questions, good luck with the babies.
