QuestionFamiliar story I know:- Recently bought a female guinea pig from a pet shop (mixed in with all males). Soon realised she was pregnant, and now have 3 beautiful little piggies. All very healthy and happy. However, 1 of the babies (male) has just started mounting the other babies. They are only just 2 weeks old. Should I seperate already. Seems pretty nasty to do while so young, but don't want any more babies!!!
Also, I have another female who used to live with mummy very happily. Have tried to introduce back to mummy and babies, but mummy is still being very protective. Is it safe to just put them back together, and let them get on with it?
Thanks in advance.
AnswerHey Lyn,
Congrats on babies!!! there really fun! Well, a male guinea pig get get his mum pregnant at 3 weeks old, thats when he should be seperated, the only problem is, babies suckle milk untill 3 weeks, so you may have to keep him with her for 1 more week, i doubt she is in heat though.
When the babies are older, the mother and friend shuld get on fine, probably the mummy is just caustious with the bubs.
