how to help when a pigs mate has died

One of my daughter's guinea pigs has died today(age 5).  How can we help the other one to adjust to life without Alice.  My daughter has held Georgina and a teddy so that the teddy will smell of Georgina and her to put in the Hutch when she goes to bed.  is there anything else we can do.  Could we get another one to keep her company?  Should we get 2 because of the difference in ages and potentially we would be in the same position again in the not to distant future?  My other daughter loves rabbits would a miniature lop be suitable.  Not a replacement but a new pet for the other daughter but still company for Georgina.  I really don't know what to do for the best.  Thanks for your help

The teddy bear idea was a good one.  At least she will have something to cuddle up with at night time so she is not so lonely, and even during the day.  Just make sure you watch her with that, because she really shouldn't be chewing the material that a stuffed animal is made of.  

It's completely up to you whether or not you want to get another guinea pig.  Of course, she would probably love the company, but if you spend some extra time with her and give her a lot of attention, she will get used to being the only guinea pig.  However, guinea pigs are very social animals, and having another one would be most beneficial.

The choice is also yours whether or not you want to get two other guinea pigs.  The main thing you have to think about is if you have the space for three guinea pigs in one cage.  You might have to get a bigger cage, more food bowls, and maybe and extra water bottle.  Each guinea pig should also have their own place to hide, just in case they feel like being away from the others.  So make sure you have enough room.

Once again though, you do not HAVE to get another guinea pig.  Just make sure you spend A LOT of time with her.
