Question
Hi there, I have rescued a momma Guinea Pig with her mate and 2 week old pups yesterday from a unexpecting family. The parents have been together since they bred and are still together with the pups. The family did not know about separating them and I do not know when the mom can get pregnant again. So when can she and her daughters get pregnant? I need to separate them before any more litters happen.

Answer
Hi Alex

The chances are that she is already pregnant as soon after the mother has had the babies she goes into heat again

You will need to take the dad out now
Just incase
normally baby females can become pregnant at the young age of 3-4 weeks
so take him out now to avoid inbreeding

Unfortunatley like i said the chances of the mother being pregnant are high but she may not be

The only problem with her having another litter so early is she needs time to recover from the pregnancy
Sometimes these litters can end in stillborns and premuture babies

Sometimes even the death of the mother
But that should not happen so dont worry to much
I also very sorry about the slow response of this answer it has just been a very bust couple of weeks latley and im under alot of pressure

All the best
And good luck
Mitchell
