what killed my guinea pig?

Question
i returned home from a graveyard shift at 215 or so in the morning. I went to the guinea pig cage to find the guinea pigs cuddling together like usual. I have only had them for maybe a couple weeks now. I purchased them at petsmart. But they are still pretty sketchy and rn away when i reach my hand in to retrieve their bowl for food. So as usual one scrrys off but the other doesn't budge. I find this surprising and think that he is asleep(they are both males). well i nudged the little guy with my hand and nothing and then i realized that my new pet is already gone :( . i noticed that one of the ears was a little chewed but that was the only visible injury. It was so minor and could not have been a cause for him to decease? Do you have any idea what may have happened it does not look like one attacked the other there is not injury to support that at all, no chance. I feed them both cucumber carrots, fruit, lots of hay and of course the reglar pellet food. I also give them water with the vitamin c drops in it, and i would also give them those vitamin c treat drops almost daily? Please help me out if you can, i don't know if i should get another one to give the guinea pig thats left a friend or not?

Answer
HI Scott

I am sorry for your loss.

Its very hard to say what might have caused the death but I suspect he might have been sick when you got him. Piggies hide their illness very well.

I would, in time, recommend a new friend for your pig as they are better with company. A baby male should be fine.
