Female Guinea pigs - what to do for the best

Question
Hi, i have two lovely female guineas pigs that are a year and a half old. Latley i've noticed they've got rather horny so to speak, one of them espically keeps rumble strutting to the other and there behaviour has changed to more aggresive and there not keen on being held and stoked even if i put my hand in and give them a little stroke just before i feed them, where as before they where really friendly. I've been talking to a friend who suggested getting them speyed, as this would stop the them being aggresive due to there hornyness. Is this the correct thing to do? As i love my piggies and don't want to hurt them or get this done if it won't benifet them. Could you please advise what would be best for them? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Zoe

Although its less normal in females, your piggies are showing sign of establishing dominance. This might be that something (even something tiny) has changed in their environment.

Spaying, in my opinion will be an unnecesary and unproductive cost as well as being a dangerous procedure.

I always suggest bathing pigs to hide scent as being a good starting point.
