My guinea pig is acting strange.

Question
I got two female guinea pigs from a breeder for my children about 5-6 months ago. I got a Texel and a Peruvian. When we got them they were both very active, made noise fairly often and were generally curious little things. I the past few days I have noticed that the Peruvian has become very quiet and withdrawn. She sleeps alot and is no longer very active. When I bring her out to play or just get some exercise, she walks around for a minute or two, then jumps back in her cage. We did move about 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure if that has any bearing on her behavior. I have become quite attached to the two of them and am very worried. Can you give me any suggestions? Thank you so much, Ida

Answer
Hello Ida,

Well, it could just be stress brought on by the move, but she could also be starting to show signs of illness. Anytime there is a behavior change, it's a good idea to see a vet. Being a bit lethargic is to vague for me to advise you on the illness she may be suffering from. Unfortunantly that's usually the first symptom of any illness. I advise a vet trip if possible. If you really feel it is just stress, you should watch her closely for any other signs of trouble. Personally, I'd see the vet if at all possible. It's always easier to treat an illness if you catch it early.
