my guinea pigs are insane

Question
HI, my guinea pigs Pip and Oliver, are 2 months old. I am pretty sure they are healthy, I buy the best for them and had them checked by a vet, but i have a bit of a dilemma. They are insane. I think. Every time I walk into the room they run into theyre house frantically. And when its time for catching them, they are nuts, they dodge in and out of there many houses and it takes a while to catch them. And when I do catch them, they try to wiggle out of my arms. Once I sit down, I stroke them and talk to them and tell them that they are the cutest guinea pigs on the face of the planet, and they usually start to settle down and make cute guinea pig noises. But then out of nowhere they jump out and run like there on crazy pills around my room. At which point I have to wake everyone up in the house and have a guinea pig scavenger hunt. I was just wondering if this is normal or if im doing something wrong, or if I got the crazy ones of the litter.

Answer
Hi Aubry

I doubt anything is wrong with them.  It is quite common for guinea pigs.  They do take such a long while to get used to their owners, I would say to get a piggie to be completely tame it can take anywhere between 1 and 3 years really, this is all dependant on the level of handling they recieive.  Also, some pigs are just sometimes a bit moody and shy too.

Nothing really to worry about here really, all I would say is be patient and handle them as much as possible...it does and will pay off.  I have a sow now who Ive had for almost 3 years, she will come to me and even arch her back a little so I can pick her up...its very rewarding! :)
