Hurt paw

Question
Our guinea pig Tobie is 3 years old and has seen the vet regularly for grooming and nail trimming. Approximately 2 weeks ago he started limping holding his front right paw up not putting any weight on it. We took him to the vet and they said he had a nail grown around into his foot. That has been one week ago and it was trimmed at the vet. He still won't put his foot down and is still hopping with difficulty. I looked at the paw and don't see anything wrong with it but he keeps it drawn up completely to his body where it is difficult to see. Do you know of any other problems he could be having?

Answer
possibly the claw was cut too short, if so then the paw will improve over time. is it possible that something has een caught in the paw?

if the claw has started growing inwards then it will need removing, which bascially means being ripped out which is not nice for the piggy. if it is pulled right up into his body then it could be something wrong with the leg itself.

this is a two person job. have one person hold him with his belly up, make sure you keep a tightish grip around his neck, it will make it harder for him to struggle and stop him biting you. the seocnd person must then gently pull out his leg to inspect it, chcek it agaisnt the other front leg, see if anything seems damaged or broken. also see if you can get him to flex his paw. if he seems unable to then he may have broken it or dislocated it.

it is possible but unlikly that he has bumble foot, but inless he is in a wire bottomed cage i seriously doubt it.
