Teeth Problems?

Question
QUESTION: My guinea pig Fuzzy seems to have teeth problems. She has lost 25% of her weight (she is now 1 pound 8 ounces) and won't eat or drink on her own. We just got Critical Care, and we are giving her pedialyte to keep her hydrated (so there is less syringe action, because so far her enemy is well, the syringe). She has the desire to eat, and she takes her favorite food, gets excited about it (drags it into her piggy igloo like she always does) and then rips it into confetti and lets it fall out of her mouth. She also sometimes wipes her mouth when she tries to chew like her mouth is irritating her. We haven't taken her to the vet though, because we can't afford it. She doesn't drool though. What is wrong with Fuzzy? She is 5 1/2 years old.

ANSWER: sounds to me that her teeth are too long, i really would recommend a vet but if you are adament that you cannot afford it then you need to invest in the instruments needed to cut her teeth for it, otherwise this problem wil not go away and she will starve to death.
cutting teeth is not easy and you can cause a lot of damange. have a look on peter gurney's website, if there is anywhere where you can get reliable information it is his site, but again i would serously recommend someone who is experienced in that area to cut them.

as a tip what might be worth doing is rather than going to a vet look up yuour local breeders and get in contact with them, the cahnce are that they can do it and perhaps will expect a little pocket money

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your help. I agree that the teeth are the issue...however I am certain that it is the rear molars. The more we are able to feed her, the more weight she gains back, and she even began "popping" again last night. She just cannot eat on her own, or drink from her bottle, but as long as she is syringe fed, she is improving with every feeding.

Answer
I would still keep an eye out for someone who might be able to remove or trim the teeth, it cant be fin for her and will be a lot of work for you to do, guiena pigs diet system works on them eating a little alot and also that they eat their poo like rabits do. if she doesnt do this them eventually she will probably die, it really needs fixing. in the mean time cut up carrots into small managable bites for her, that is like guinea pig lard, it will help her regain the weight faster.
