Question
I have 2 female pigs (or at least my small animal Vet says so).  We acquired the little one when she was 4 weeks and the older one (9 months at the time) seemed to take over the Mom role.  Lately, they fight all the time.  I thought it might be a dominance issue, but it never stops (has been going on for 3 weeks).  We miss watching them play together.  The big one is constantly spraying the little one, now, and the little one does this interesting butt-wiggling thing when she's preparing to fight and backing up.  We've also noticed that something descends from the baby's genital areas when she's about to attack, but it honestly does not look like male genitalia.  Once she's calm, it retracts.  There's been no explicit "sexual" behavior...just this attacking, marking stuff.  Will they ever go back to being buddies again?  If the vet was wrong, and one is a male, would the hostile attacks be consistent with pregnancy or mating behavior?

Answer
Hi Amy

What you describe is very unusual behaviour especially if they are both females.

Is there any chance that one of the 2 pigs is pregnant. This might explain why one is attacking the other.

If one pig was male, it is very unlikely that the male would attack the female, but would rather try to mate with her.

Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee your two pigs becoming friends again. I am so sorry that my response is not more helpful.
