the best way to train a guinea pig is with patience. It is harder to train a guinea pig because they don't have a long attention span. The best way to get them to do what you want is to use treats and persuade them. I have my hamster trained to come to the front of the cage when i approach and I did it through sunflower seeds. Everytime he came to the front I had sunflower seeds for him and he loves them.

yes, especially if you don't have another guinea pig they are going to need social interaction from you. They will get very comfortable with you and will purr and follow you actually.
