Question
I just got a new guinea pig since my old one recently passed. She was very jumpy and bit me a lot and i want to do everything in my power to make my new pig very social and friendly. Any tips on how i can make her feel comfortable around me?

Answer
Hi Alex,

I once read something in a book on making your new guinea pig feel comfortable in its new home.  It involved, for the first couple of days, letting it sit in its cage with you only looking in.  After a while you can pet it gently and offer it some vegetables.  When it gets to the point where seems eager for your touch when you reach your hand in, then gentle handling is the next step.

This seems like a good idea and i suggest trying it - however, if it seems too long and drawn out to you as it did to me, then try holding him gently while offering it carrots, lettuce, or yogurt drops (found at your local pet store).  It may take a while but soon your piggie will feel at home.

Thank your for your question, I hope I was of help to you.  If you have any further questions, or if she continues to bite you, please do not hesitate to consult me.  I once had a frequently biting guinea pig.  Good luck with her (=
