Question
We just got a baby piggy for oue children to help with the loss of another pig,  I am wondering what things we should definitly feed him that won't hurt him, we heard that the leaves from dandelions are great for him along with oranges and kiwis, how much should we give him and how often? how important is it to put the vitamin c drops in his water?   Also what temperature should it be to take him outside we have an outdoor pen for him, I don't want it to get heat stroke.  Also some one told me that shavings in the cage are no good and that we should use newspaper what is your opinion. How do we bath him and should we do it everytime we change his cage.  Also what kind of toys should we give him so he won't get bored.  What kind of bed should he have, someone mentioned to me a cozy ball or a coconut, will a cardboard box with a door on it be ok.

Answer
Hi

Basically all fruits and veggies are fine but acidic fruits like orange shouldnt be given more than once per week as it causes lip sores. Dandelion leaves are good, yes.

Vitamin c drops arent all that great and its much better he gets his vitamincs from fresh foods.

For temperature, piggies are best in the same temperature us humans are comfortable in.

Shavings arent ideal but I find wood shavings ok compared with sawdust which is a big no no. Hay is the absolute best bedding.

Bathing shouldnt be done more than once every 3 months as most pigs dont like it.

For toys, anything that can be hidden in, run through and chewed is fine. The best way to keep a pig occupied is to give him a friend.

I dont use a special bed, my pigs just cuddle up in their favourite corner but your cardboard idea is fine.
