My guinea pig fell and hurt its leg

Question
tonight, my young 2 month old guinea pig (girl) decided to jump off my brother's old suspended bed (rock wall to get up). it was his bed before his rabbit moved in up there. my guinea pig was up playing with the rabbit and when i put her down on the outside part of the part where the rabbit's cage is (this is really hard to explain)to get down then grab her, she jumped off the ledge before i even got to the floor. i reacted fast and got to the ground. she started to move on the floor. she dragged her two hind legs. i picked up and placed her in a box with fluff, apples and my mom gave her a little crushed Tylenol in water. she has not made a sound yet and liked the Tylenol. she is just lying there calm and quiet and can walk a little but she drags one foot a little. will she be alight or is it really important i get her to the vet?

Answer
Hi Taylor-Ann,

It sounds as though she's had a lucky escape! When you mentioned that she was dragging both legs, I was worried that she could have paralysed them. As it's just one now, she's a very lucky girl. I'd recommend you take her to the vet (a specialist small animal or exotic pet vet if you can find one) so you can establish whether the leg is broken or just bruised; it will heal on its own if it's bruised (she'll drag it for a while) but if it's broken it may need a splint. The vet can also give her an examination and make sure there's been no internal injury or damage to her teeth.

Please don't put her up onto a high place to play again; she won't learn from her mistake and will probably jump off again one day, and the next time she may not be so lucky.

If you have any other questions just ask.

Jenny.
