Baytril

Question
Georgia,
Our 2.5yo male has been sick for several weeks.  He was originally diagnosed with a sinus infection and put on trimethoprim.  He got better and went back to his regular cage with his brother.  Then he got sick again, this time the trimethoprim plus an antihistimine didn't work after 10 days.  The vet today put him on Baytril, in tablet form.  It's beef flavored(she's an exotic vet at a regular vet's office) so we aren't sure how to give it to him. He isn't eating much at all so it seems like the whole pill or part of it is out of the question.  We tried crushing it up using 2 spoons as she directed and putting it in solution in water. We lost alot of it in the crushing process. When we administered it, he spit most of it back out.  Is there a way to make a solution that he will take a little better?  We're also having to force feed him. She told us to soak his pellets to make a mush, can we just crush the pill up in that?

Answer
there are three options here. first you could get a piece of fruit or veg that he enjoys and crush the tablet inside it. secondly, you culd force feed him. i know it is unpleasant but he has to have it. fnally, you could crush it and put it in his mouth (a bit at a time) and giving him fruit or veg straight after. contact me if you have any more questions
