QuestionHi,
I have a male cavy who I'd like to breed, perhaps. The thing is that he is almost 4 years old. Is that too old? He has never been bred before.
Thanks,
Karen

Well, the answer to your question is ... perhaps. Male cavies become sterile somewhere age 3 and age 5, depending on the animal. If you're going to breed him, find him a girl friend who is about 6 months old. Put them together. If you find that she becomes pregnant, then you've got your answer. If not, then your male cavy just has a friend to hang out with and to keep him company.
Hope this answers all your questions. If you have any more or if you need clarification, please feel free to contact me. Good luck!
