fly strike

can guinea pigs get fly strke.if so what can i do to prevent it. thank you

yes they DO get flystrike and its usually fatal,the piggies can die within about 48 hours of the eggs of the fly being laid
You need to keep the hutch clean,and make sure that if you have long haired pigs that their bums are not matted with poo.Cut the hair round their bums really short to avoid matting.
You can buy some citronella essential oil and dab their rumps with it just as a precaution.
Never use conventional household fly killer as this can be poisonous to guines pigs.
