largest breed?

       Do you think you could tell me what breed of guinea pig you think (or is) the largest?

Hello Aly,

Well..... The largest breed is said to be the Super Guinea Pigs of Peru. They are over 2 lbs and are bred for food not pets. However, my little Abyssinian/Peruvian mix, Little Soli is 4 lbs and nearly all mine are over 2 lbs, so I'm not sure how they are so impressed with the size of their little "Super Guinea Pigs". "Offically" though, Super Guinea Pigs are believed to be the largest breed. As for pet breeds, it is believed the Rex is the largest. To be honest though, all breeds are pretty much the same average size with variations mostly just between individuals. The long extinct Phoberomys pattersoni weighed about 1,545 lbs and was a relative of the Guinea Pig though. Hope this has helped!
