QuestionHello, I am hoping you will be able to answer my question. My guinea pig has lost a patch of hair on his back but no skin is showing, instead it is a large sore-blister looking thing and I have no idea what it is. Is it painful to my pig and what can I do to help him right away? Thanks a lot, Cody
AnswerHello,
It sounds like your guinea has a skin infection, if it is a fungal than there is a thick, crusty scurf to the skin and the hair comes out in clumps with small white bits on the end of the hair shafts. If it is a parasite than the hair thins or there are bald pathces and broken hair shafts. If it is either of these you can treat these things effectively and safely yourself but if unsure contact your vet.
Best wishes
